Raritan Technologies, Inc. (RTI), working collaboratively with Alcoa,
built a new and improved Product Search interface (based on Verity's
Parametric and K2 technology) which allows users to access the data in a
more intuitive manner by combining the best of search and browse. The
new Alcoa site retains and integrates the favorite features of the
previous site while adding new features. It enables users to navigate
through the vast range of Alcoa products for all businesses and
locations at one time while still keeping the Alcoa look and quality.

Raritan Technologies enabled Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS) to replace an
existing production system
with an upgraded replacement in two months. The old system, which searched
against a single data source, was replaced with a new interface, which
provides a unified search interface against multiple repositories. Raritan's
experience with the Verity search engine, Java and Portal Solutions enabled
us to meet BMS's requirements in an extremely short timeframe. This
implementation linked the Verity search engine to Documentum repositories in
which BMS's data resides.
BMS needed assistance in developing a web-based Documentum interface with specific
user interface and performance requirements. Developed code to extract information
from Documentum, and perform incremental updates of in-memory data structures.
Filtered data structures at runtime, depending on user id and object Access Control Lists.
Nightly jobs send email notifications to subscribed users, telling them of new documents
that have been added to specific Documentum docbases and folders. Users can subscribe
to the email notification features through the interface.

Raritan Technologies assisted ePromos in upgrading their
Extended Catalog Portion of their Endeca powered web site to make the url’s
more friendly to Google and the other web search engines so
that the estimated 360,000 products in the extended catalog
are more likely to rank higher in a search, driving more
customers to ePromos.
Raritan, an Endeca partner, completed this customized URL
optimization using the Endeca UICL framework following Best
Practices for Dynamic URL's in September
of 2009.

According to Gerry Grenier, Staff Director, Publishing Technologies for
the IEEE "Raritan Technologies is the first company we look to whenever
we enhance our existing Verity application or see a potential new area
where this technology can be applied. They've helped us upgrade our
production system from Verity Information Server to Verity K2 version 5.0.
They're also working with us on automating document classification using VIC,
which potentially could lead to cost savings for the IEEE. Other areas where
they are (or will) help us are with relational taxonomies (in Parametric
search applications) and in meta-searching with the Verity Federated
(Federator) suite.
We see the relationship between Raritan and the IEEE continuing for a long time."

A Fortune 500 Pharmaceutical company needed to create a company specific taxonomy, and set of applications, to provide their knowledge workers with timely answers to research questions. Working with Raritan Taxonomy experts, their library staff created an enterprise taxonomy, starting with the MeSH taxonomy, and enhancing it to be specific for their companies knowledge.
This enterprise taxonomy was then used as a basis for various applications across multiple areas. The search applications provided a single interface to the multiple document repositories that are used, such as Documentum, File Systems, internal web sites and eRooms. The client is using the Raritan Technologies eRoom collection builder to index and search their eRoom documents.
Raritan Technologies provides the technical and search knowledge to enable this Pharmaceutical company to provide advanced tools for their knowledge workers, saving them time, the company money, and allowing their employees to find the right information faster so that they can get their products to market before the competition.

Raritan Technologies enabled this Pharmaceutical company (one of the 5
largest) to implement a "federated search" solution which
provides a unified search interface against multiple
external search engines. Raritan's
experience with the Verity Federator along with it's suite
of re-usable protocol specific workers enabled
us to meet their requirements in an extremely short
timeframe. |
Raritan Technologies enabled this top 5 Pharmaceutical
company to implement parametric, profiling and Federated
solutions using our SIFT framework
over a period of several years. These solutions are
currently being used by the R&D and Regulatory Affairs
groups. |
After delivering the new WilsonWeb to HW Wilson in 2003, Raritan Technologies
continues to deliver product upgrades and support to HW Wilson. The latest
enhancements include a more visible bottom taskbar; a new "revise search"
button and "jump-to" feature; the new "print-email-save" page; and a new
"customize display" screen. Based in NYC and Dublin, Wilson has been providing
an invaluable service for libraries and researchers for over a century, and
currently offers over 15 million entries from over 4,000 periodicals and books.

As a Technology Partner (and subcontractor) for Verity, Inc. provided professional services
for multiple Verity clients. Some of the solutions that we've delivered include:
|
 |
A Fortune 500 Chemical company needed to search multiple search engines (local and Web based),
using a single search form. We provided 4 modules or 'workers' for Verity's new Federated
(Federator) Search Technology. Each worker accesses a unique search site and the results are converted
to a common display format on a federated result page. Two of the modules required security
authorization and were the most complex workers that had been developed for Verity at the time.

The Fortune 500 Aeronautics Company needed to add categorization and intelligent classification
to its existing document search system - the Enterprise Search Server. This was achieved by
combining several Verity technologies. The Verity Intelligent Classifier was used to develop
a expert search knowledge base or query rules-engine consisting of a custom taxonomy developed
by the companies librarians, and Verity query rules or "topics". The resulting "Knowledge Tree"
was then applied to documents in the enterprise by using Verity's "Profiler" technology. The
Profiler produced a hierarchical categorization of the documents - connecting each document to
their most relevant categories as determined by the rules. The categorization output is in the
form of a Verity "Parametric Index" which allows multidimensional browsing. Finally, Verity's
"Federated Search" technology was used to integrate the Parametric Index with the existing search engine.

A government agency needed help in the transition from a legacy indexing product to the Verity product.
We developed a translator which takes Inquire (legacy) queries and produces optimized Verity queries
giving the users a consistent interface and the improved performance of a more powerful indexing engine.
This utility allowed government workers, who are familiar with the Inquire syntax, time to transition to
Verity's syntax at their own pace.
This utility is still in use.
Wrote an <Arabic> operator, which uses
linguistic rules to transliterate Arabic words and search for all variants (e.g. "<arabic> khadaffy"
would find any of: Gadaffi, Gadafi, Khadafy, Qadafi, Khadaffi, Ghadafi, Kaddafi,Khadaffy, Gadafy, Qadaffi, al Khadaffy, el Khadaffy, etc.)

As a Technology Partner (and subcontractor) for Autonomy, Inc.
provided professional services for their clients. Some of the solutions that we've delivered include:
|
 |
A large beverage company needed to develop a
replacement for the current search application
in their vendor portal. This client’s portal had
many deficiencies in providing users of the
system with relevant search results. Search was
limited to metadata searches only, there was no
relevancy ranking, no use of synonyms or
advanced query parsing. The new search
application corrected the deficiencies in the
existing search functionality and also provided
parametric selection for navigation of search
results and full text searching. |
 |
This industry leader in the design and
manufacturing of embedded semiconductors needed
help with their existing K2 parametric search
application and brought in Autonomy
Professional Services to review the design and architecture for the application.
Raritan technologies consultants were brought in as Autonomy sub-contractors and recommended
implementation options for upgrading the existing deployment. These recommendations
are currently being implemented
